Excellent fellowship opportunity for JMU students
I wanted to pass along a great opportunity for current and recent JMU graduate students who are interested in working for the federal government. The Presidential Management Fellowship (PMF) is a program that was designed for the development of young professionals into the future leaders of the federal government. The fellowship is a 2 year position with a federal agency that then usually converts into a permanent government position at the end of the 2 years. Students of all majors and backgrounds are encouraged to apply as the federal agencies have a diverse range of skills and positions available to PMFs. I am a current PMF with the U.S. Forest Service and my office is actually stationed here at JMU so I wanted to pass along the opportunity to this university in case you have students who would be interested. The 2013 application is open from today (Nov. 5th) through Nov. 19th. You can find more information at www.pmf.gov. Feel free to get in touch with me if you have any questions about the fellowship or the application process. I serve on the Forest Service’s PMF recruitment committee so if I don’t have an answer I should be able to get one for you.

Internship Opportunity Available in Washington DC
SAE is now accepting applications for the 2013 Washington Internships for Students of Engineering (WISE) program.<http://students.sae.org/awdscholar/internships/?WT.i_asset_id=AW-WISE-1112&WT.i_dcsvid=brodricj@jmu.edu&&PC=12WISE&PCN=6101934956&elq=db79f8d4c41f472fbdff4f7319aed243&elqCampaignId=367>
Application deadline: December 31, 2012
The Washington Internships for Students of Engineering (WISE) program offers a unique opportunity for eligible engineering students to spend a summer in Washington DC learning how government officials make decisions on complex technological issues and how engineers can contribute to legislative and regulatory policy decisions. It is a great program for students who may have interest in future public policy involvement either in government or with the corporate sector.
Throughout the nine weeks, students will meet with leaders in the Congress, regulatory and cabinet-level agencies within the Executive Branch, prominent non-governmental organizations, and industry. Based on these contacts plus additional research done during the internship, each student is responsible for preparing a public policy oriented paper on a current engineering related public policy issue that is important to them and their sponsoring society.
Applications for WISE are sought from outstanding engineering students who display evidence of leadership skills and have a keen interest in public policy. Applicants should be undergraduate engineering students (juniors or seniors) or recent graduates beginning study in an engineering or technology policy-related Master's program. Applicants must be citizens or legal permanent residents of the United States.
Interested students should visit the SAE Website for further information and an application.
Questions regarding this scholarship can be sent to scholarships@sae.org.
Additional Opportunities for Students
* Yanmar/SAE Scholarship - junior engineering students pursuing a course of study or research related to the conservation of energy in transportation. Application deadline: February 15, 2013
* SAE Long Term Member Sponsored Scholarship - junior SAE student members who actively support SAE and its activities. Application deadline: February 15, 2013
