Technical Entrepreneurship: Innovation is Not an Elective

In Summer 2012, Lehigh University is launching a new Master's of Engineering degree (M.Eng.) in Technical Entrepreneurship. Lehigh's 30-credit professional Master's program helps young entrepreneurs create, refine, and commercialize intellectual property through the licensing or launching of a new business. For recent graduates of engineering, business, science and design, Lehigh's program provides training in the art and practice of creating new companies while bringing revolutionary products and services to market. Students in the program learn by experiencing the idea-to-venture process in an educational environment that's hard-wired to support the development of novel, innovative and commercially-viable technologies.

The one-year, in-residence program draws upon Lehigh's deep-rooted and powerful ecosystem of programs dedicated to the teaching of business and technology innovation, building upon the success of such endeavors as Lehigh's Integrated Product Development (IPD) program and the Baker Institute for Entrepreneurship, Creativity and Innovation.

Please contact me if you would like to discuss the program in more detail, and thank you in advance for connecting interested students with this exciting opportunity.

INNOVATION IS NOT AN ELECTIVE

In any measure of business success, things must be going pretty well when a firm is listed between Google and Microsoft. Yet, that is exactly where EcoTech Marine found itself in September 2010, courtesy of a Newsweek article listing the top 10 companies that grew from college ideas into business juggernauts.

EcoTech Marine was brought to life through the savvy of student entrepreneurs who engaged the full range of idea- and business-development resources that Lehigh has to offer. The firm has experienced an eye-popping annual growth rate of 995%, and achieved a ranking of #302 in Inc. magazine's 2010 review of the 500 fastest growing U.S. companies.

And it's just one of an ever-growing list of successful start-ups incubating on our campus.
