Invitation to participate in the inaugural National Collegiate Wind Competition Application

Greetings from the Virginia Center for Wind Energy at JMU –

We are currently building a team to respond to the National Collegiate Wind Competition.  JMU is one of ten colleges and universities in the nation selected by the U.S. Department of Energy to compete in this competition, set to take place in Spring 2014.  In order to compete, we are inviting students and faculty from a variety of departments and programs including ISAT, Engineering, Business, Political Science, Industrial Design, and Communication Studies.  Faculty members from these areas have already been secured, we are now recruiting students.  An application process is now underway to consider students who wish to participate on the competition team.  The goal is to establish our student team by the beginning of the Fall 2013 semester.  Applications are due by July 19th.

Students who participate in this effort will be required to enroll ISAT 480:  Issues in Wind Energy for two credits during either Fall 2013 or Spring 2014.  Students are strongly encouraged to take this course during both semesters as it will provide information critical to the competition, and will providing a venue for team meetings during each semester.  There will also be opportunities for students to apply this project to other courses for their program, such as senior capstone projects.

The student application document and a flyer for the competition are attached to this email.  We would appreciate if you would forward these documents to other students, friends, etc., within or outside your major, to anyone you think might be interested.  Also, please sign up for the ISAT 480 course as soon as possible if you intend to apply.

Feel free to visit the team Facebook page at www.facebook.com/jmuwindcompetition.  Please let us know if you have any questions.

Many thanks,

David Hryvniak, ISAT ‘14
