The engineering program at James Madison University received official word of its ABET accreditation today. ABET is a nonprofit, non-governmental organization that accredits university programs in engineering and other technical disciplines in the U.S. and around the world. This accreditation is an affirmation that the Madison Engineering program meets quality standards established by the engineering profession. The Madison Engineering program, founded upon JMU's renowned liberal arts tradition, was established in 2008 on the principles of project-based learning focused on sustainability, design, and adaptable systems thinking. The program has flourished from inception, and now is a community of nearly 420 students and 20 faculty and staff, together engaged in engineering with purpose.
