The Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering (MAE) at West Virginia University
(WVU) has multiple faculty in search of exceptional graduate students interested in
pursuing a Ph.D. in aerospace engineering with a focus on astrodynamics, space systems,
and/or spacecraft navigation. These faculty are part of the Space Flight and Systems
research area within the MAE department.
The Space Flight and Systems area is a broad multi-disciplinary research area concerned
with all aspects of the planning, design, fabrication, operation, servicing, and disposal of
spacecraft. Research within the MAE Department focuses on orbital mechanics, trajectory
optimization, spacecraft design, spacecraft navigation, space robotics, and satellite
servicing. Additionally, WVU is home to the state-of-the-art West Virginia Robotic
Technology Center (http://wvrtc.com/) that is developing technologies to enable a
servicing spacecraft to grapple a client spacecraft for repair or refueling.
